Darwin Ramos

Darwin Ramos (1994–2012) was a Filipino layman who, despite suffering from a severe neuromuscular disease, became known for his deep faith, joy, and unwavering trust in God. Born into extreme poverty in the Philippines, Darwin worked as a child scavenger on the streets of Manila to help support his family. At a young age, he was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive illness that gradually weakened his muscles. As his condition worsened, he was taken in by the foundation Tulay ng Kabataan, where he received care and education.

Despite his suffering, Darwin embraced his illness with a profound sense of faith, seeing his struggles as a way to unite himself with Christ’s passion. He became a source of inspiration to those around him, always offering encouragement and prayers for others despite his own pain. His joyful spirit and trust in God led many to see him as an example of holiness in everyday life. Even as his condition deteriorated, he continued to express gratitude, finding strength in the Eucharist and prayer.

Darwin Ramos passed away on September 23, 2012, at the age of 17. The Catholic Church declared him a Servant of God in 2019.
