Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu

Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in 1910 in Skopje, dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, India, focusing on caring for those in need. Her selfless work earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

After her death in 1997, the Catholic Church swiftly initiated her canonization process. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003, in St. Peter's Square. Pope Francis later canonized her as Saint Teresa of Calcutta on September 4, 2016, during a ceremony at the Vatican.

Pope John Paul II, during her beatification, remarked: "Her life is a testimony to the dignity and the privilege of humble service. She had chosen to be not just the least but to be the servant of the least."
