Michael J. McGivney

Blessed Michael J. McGivney (1852–1890) was an American Catholic priest who founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 in New Haven, Connecticut, to provide financial and social support to immigrant families.

His cause for canonization began in 1996, leading to his beatification on October 31, 2020, after Pope Francis approved a miracle attributed to his intercession.

During the beatification Mass, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson remarked, "He embodied the order's principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, and his example continues to guide the two million members of the Knights of Columbus today."
