Vittorio Trancanelli was born on April 26, 1944, in Spello, Perugia, Italy. He pursued medical studies at the University of Perugia, where he graduated with distinction, eventually becoming a skilled surgeon at the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Perugia. In 1965, he married Rosalia Sabatini, and together they had a son, Diego. Their shared commitment to faith and compassion led them to adopt seven additional children, many with disabilities, transforming their home into a haven of love and care.
Trancanelli's medical career was marked by profound dedication and empathy. Despite battling ulcerative colitis that led to a severe peritonitis episode in 1976, he continued to serve his patients with unwavering commitment. His deep Catholic faith guided his professional and personal life, leading him and his wife to establish the association "Alle Querce di Mamre," aimed at supporting children in need. Additionally, Trancanelli had a keen interest in biblical studies and actively participated in interfaith dialogues, particularly fostering relationships with the Jewish community.
Vittorio Trancanelli passed away on June 24, 1998, in Cenerente, Perugia. His legacy of selfless service and deep spirituality led to the initiation of his beatification process. On February 27, 2017, Pope Francis recognized his heroic virtues, declaring him Venerable.
