Laureana Franco

Laureana "Ka Luring" Franco (1936–2011) was a Filipino lay catechist renowned for her unwavering faith and dedication to teaching the Catholic faith. Born on July 4, 1936, in Hagonoy, Taguig City, she was the eldest of eight children in a devout Catholic family. Her parents instilled in her a strong spiritual foundation, emphasizing the importance of prayer and devotion.

In 1969, Franco left her position as a switchboard operator and accounting clerk at the Philippine Air Force to become a full-time, unpaid catechist with the Legion of Mary. Her commitment to her faith was so profound that she became one of only two laywomen authorized to distribute Holy Communion in the Archdiocese of Manila at that time. She dedicated her life to teaching catechism, praying, and serving the poor, embodying the virtues of humility and selflessness.

Franco passed away on July 15, 2011, at the age of 75 due to ovarian cancer. In recognition of her virtuous life and dedication to the Church, the Archdiocese of Manila initiated the process for her beatification in 2024.
