Giuseppe Moscati

Giuseppe Moscati was born on July 25, 1880, in Benevento, Italy, and later moved to Naples with his family. He pursued a career in medicine, earning his degree from the University of Naples in 1903. As a physician, Moscati was renowned for his compassionate care, often treating the poor without charge and integrating his deep Catholic faith into his medical practice. He made significant contributions to medical science, including pioneering the use of insulin in Italy for diabetes treatment.

Moscati passed away on April 12, 1927, in his office between patient appointments. Recognizing his virtuous life and dedication, the Catholic Church beatified him on November 16, 1975, under Pope Paul VI, and later canonized him on October 25, 1987, by Pope John Paul II. His feast day is celebrated on November 16, and his remains are enshrined in the Church of Gesù Nuovo in Naples.

Moscati once advised, "Remember that you have to deal not only with the bodies but also with the moaning souls coming to you."
